YOUTH SERVICES NAVIGATOR
Alex House is seeking a dynamic, creative, and collaborative Youth Services Navigator (YSN) to join our team. The YSN will support youth aged 13 and older, along with their families, in South Surrey/White Rock who are facing mental health challenges. The primary role is to advocate for these youth, helping them access necessary services and resources to meet their current needs, with the goal of reducing the need for future crisis interventions. Purpose:
The Navigator role is a unique position designed to enhance existing relationships between service providers while establishing effective methods for gathering statistics and reporting on the health, wellness, and needs of community youth. Collaborating closely with the Alex House Youth & Family team and under the general direction of the Manager, Youth Services Navigator (YSN) will be responsible for developing and implementing the integrated youth services project.
The YSN will provide a culturally sensitive approach to providing education, support, and guidance to youth and their families while connecting them to community resources, providing wrap-around support during the transition process.
The YSN will take a trauma informed, anti-oppressive, and strengths-based approach to bridging the gap between services for youth in South Surrey/White Rock. The YSN will engage with youth and their families to reduce barriers to accessing services and programs that contribute to a youth’s overall mental health challenges to develop individual wellness plans.
As a leadership role, in the context of the neighbourhood house work, the YSN will take a lead role engaging local community organizations to work collaboratively in order to streamline access for youth to services and supports. The YSN will, in consultation with, Y&F Manager and/or Y&F Program Director establish policies and procedures regarding participant involvement, program requirements and outcome measurements.
Program Management and Coordination
Ensure program objectives and outcomes are monitored and met.
Prepare program reports, gather statistics, and maintain relevant documentation and systems.
Communicate and promote program information both internally and externally, develop promotional materials as needed, and regularly update these materials, including through social media and websites.
Build and maintain effective relationships with all program stakeholders, including the Alex House Youth & Family team, Vine Youth Clinic, Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) including Child and Youth Mental Health, the School District including Triage, and other community partners.
Develop and submit funding proposals for the programs and identify new funding opportunities, in consultation with the Youth & Family Manager and/or Youth & Family Program Director.
Community Development
Apply a decolonized perspective when working with the community, fostering a broader understanding of the impacts of colonization.
Collaborate with community partners to identify and address gaps in services for youth and their families, including mental health and substance use services, housing, food, education, employment, and other life skills services.
Advocate for youth in broader community meetings.
Deliver educational programs to the community to reduce barriers and stigma, and to build understanding.
Design and develop prevention and intervention programs in collaboration with other Alex House managers to meet community needs.
Represent Alex House on committees and advocacy groups related to program areas.
Actively engage the community in developing responsive programming and participate in decision-making about community needs.
Conduct social research as needed.
Job Details:
Organizational Responsibility: Reports to Manager, Youth & Family Team, and collaborates with Youth & Family Programs, as well as with other Alex House team members.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position may supervise volunteers and/or practicum students.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Client Services
Support youth and their families in understanding and accessing available community services, supports, and resources promptly.
Identify service gaps and collaborate with youth, families, your team, and community partners to creatively address these gaps.
Assist youth in accessing the Vine Youth Clinic.
Conduct community outreach to raise awareness of programs and services.
Gather statistics on the health, wellness, and needs of community youth.
Provide one-on-one support, case management, group work (with youth and/or families/caregivers), community outreach/networking, and brief counseling support.
Coordinate triage and support referred clients in accessing interim services.
Collaborate with youth to assess individual needs, identify strengths and barriers, and create plans to address their needs.
Offer culturally appropriate support to youth and their families in navigating mental health and substance use resources locally and within Metro Vancouver.
Oversee intake criteria and referral processes in consultation with the Youth & Family Manager, serving as the point of contact for youth and their families navigating complex systems.
Screen intakes, including referrals to crisis supports, when required.
Provide interim brief services and case management support, including coordinating case conferences with youth and their families.
Advocate for youth and their families as needed.
Key Qualifications
Experience working with youth and families facing mental health and substance use challenges, and providing group and one-on-one support for marginalized youth.
Deep understanding of Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility, and the ability to approach work through a decolonized lens.
MSW or MA in a related field such as social work, substance use counseling, or youth work (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Minimum of RN, BSW, or BA with demonstrated experience and training in delivering crisis services.
Experience in counseling youth and/or families with relevant training.
At least 2 years of experience in a leadership or coordination role.

Accountability:
The Child and Youth Recreation Leader position will join a dynamic team at Alex House to assist in supervising, planning, organizing implementing program development in community for children, youth and their families. The Child and Youth Recreation Leader works under the direction of the Community Programs Coordinator or designate. The role includes working at children’s camps, children and youth programs, Youth space, and helping to plan and facilitate Neighbourhood Fun night events as well as other summer program initiatives. The position works collaboratively with diverse community participants, team members and volunteers (youth and community) to support the development and evaluation of community programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• The successful candidate will be a student pursuing diploma/degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education, recreation programmer education, sociology, health sciences, counselling or related field.
• Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable populations including children, youth and families and seniors in a social recreational or community
• Prior volunteer or work experience with vulnerable populations
• Demonstrated experience working with children and youth implementing programs and community events

This position will also look for ways to build in food sustainability and food rescue and find ways to bride to programs and services who could benefit including Alex House participants. This position will also help support marketing and promotional activities including social media, the creation/updating of program materials and other administrative tasks.
Programing is intended to engage children, youth, and families and community in a social environment by offering interactive games, live music, art opportunities, and supportive activities to gain life skill, social skills, and interpersonal skills in the South Surrey/White Rock community.

DUTIES and responsibilities:
1. Ensure high standard implementation of administrative, scheduling/booking, bookkeeping and customer service aspects of external rental/catering activity for short-term overnight rentals, day rentals and long-term program rentals, including ensuring appropriate rental agreements, invoicing and follow-up for all rental groups.
2. With available resources, plan, implement and evaluate marketing efforts to support rental and catering activities, with the goal of increasing revenues.
3. Oversee and make the purchase of office/administrative supplies and equipment, and oversee and make the purchase of food service/catering equipment/supplies in collaboration with Alex House staff responsible for food programs.
4. Plan for, implement, manage and monitor overall office/administrative systems, resources and procedures, collaborating with other staff where required.
5. Train and supervise volunteers, in collaboration with other relevant Alex House staff responsible for volunteer management relating to sales and administration.
6. Advanced level of computer skills in all key Microsoft Office suite, particularly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher; PDF Adobe, MAC computers
7. Experience working with online platforms and tools, such as Squarespace, Google Drive
8. Experience working with a computerized HRIS system such as ADP, SAGE, WFN, Filemaker Pro, QuickBooks.
9. Excellent data entry skills in both speed and accuracy essential
10. Other duties as required.

THE WORK:
Reporting to the Director Community Development Strategy and Implementation or designate, the Community Programs Engagement Coordinator (CPEC) oversees Alex House’s community programs, a hybrid of participant driven activities and funded programs based on interest and needs. The ideal candidate has extensive experience planning and delivering community-based programs, overseeing volunteer recruitment and retention, and working collaboratively with community stakeholders. The CPEC is equally adept at working with teams, as they are working independently. Taking the lead on Alex House events including Alex Fest, Neighbourhood Fun Nights, and ad hoc special events. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed, as this role will take the lead on preparing social media and newsletter content, especially related to significant historical social justice dates or emergent events. An ability to facilitate large and small groups, including support to the Community Garden advisory members, and initiating community conversations/circles around emergent interests or needs.
The CPEC has significant wide-ranging experience writing grants, and seeking sponsorships in support of initiatives, they will also need to develop budgets and manage and mitigate variances.

• Marketing and promotion of activities and events. Includes updating content on website (Squarespace).
• Provide outreach to community about Alex House community activities.
• Engages internal and external stakeholders in Neighbourhood House activities.
• Initiates & facilitates community dialogues, circles and conversations on social justice issues and/or interests of the community.
• Builds understanding and awareness around social justice issues, including poverty, homelessness, housing, mental wellness, food insecurity, ageism, Indigenous sovereignty, homophobia, xenophobia, racism etc.
• Supports the development and implementation of activities that enhance the wellness of community, ‘contributing to a vibrant, inclusive, and caring community.’

1. Janitorial –
· Weekday cleaning of childcare and program spaces.
· Replenish paper/cleaning supplies in all buildings, as needed.
· As assigned – evening cleaning of childcare and program spaces.
· Site cleanliness incl. cleaning of outdoor garbage containers.
2. Maintenance –
· General maintenance over weekday incl. plugged toilets/sink, flooding, breakers etc. and/or call external service provider when unable to remedy. Non-urgent issues will be referred to Building Services Manager.
· Vacation coverage and some on-call for statutory holidays
