We’re looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and relational Youth Worker to join our team at The Youth Space, a safe, sober, and inclusive environment for youth aged 10-24 to connect, create and innovate. This space is driven by youth, for youth, in partnership with supportive adults who believe in their potential. 

 As a key team member, you will play an active role in empowering youth through programming, mentorship, and inclusive engagement.

This position focuses on: 

·       Facilitating a social-emotional skills-building group for youth aged 10–13 

·       Developing and delivering life skills programming for all ages 

·       Strengthening support and visibility for 2SLGBTQ+ youth

 

The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth in a group setting, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and a deep belief in the resilience and strengths of young people. 

 This is a 28–35 hour/week role supporting youth in the South Surrey/White Rock area, with regular late afternoon and evening shifts required.

 This position reports directly to Youth Space Coordinator, Director of Youth and Family Services and requires evening work. 

 Our work is centered on inclusion and equity, building social connections and breaking down discrimination through community building. ·    Build trusting relationships with vulnerable youth and their families.

·       Provide direct individual 1-1 and group support, and assist with Youth Space programs.

·       Work collaboratively with the team (youth, volunteers, staff) to develop and evaluate programming.

·       Conduct weekly outreach in the community and on the streets.

·       Address urgent needs related to mental health, substance use, or behavioural concerns using trauma-informed practices. 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

 ·       Strong ability to engage youth “where they’re at,” especially those facing complex challenges.

·       Knowledge of trauma-informed, harm reduction, and anti-oppressive practices.

·       Empathy, strong boundaries, and non-judgmental communication.

·       Effective crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.

·       Group facilitation skills and knowledge of community resources.

Job Details:

Full Time –Hiring Range: ANHBC Salary Grid Band P4 Hiring Range to Step 1 to Step 3 - $23.59 to $26.14 subject to experience (Full Range Step 1 to Step 7 $30.00/hr)

Terms of Employment: 28-35 hours/week, including evening hours. 

Start Date: Successful candidate is expected to start as soon as possible

qualifications:

·       Diploma/degree (or in progress) in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or related field

·       Experience providing group and individual support to youth

·       Volunteer, work, or lived experience with vulnerable populations

·       Knowledge of Cultural Safety, Humility, and decolonized practices

·       Valid driver’s license, business-use vehicle with $2M liability

·       Current First Aid & CPR; Foodsafe an asset

·       Clear criminal record check
