We are seeking a mindful, passionate, and collaborative Child and Youth Recreation Leader to join our Team for the summer. Accountability: The Child and Youth Recreation Leader positions will join a dynamic team at Alex House to assist in supervising, planning, organizing implementing programs in community for children, youth and their families. The Child and Youth Recreation Leader works under the direction of the Director of Strategy & Implementation or designate. The role includes working at children’s camps, and children and youth programs, Youth space, and helping to plan and facilitate Neighbourhood Fun night events as well as other summer program initiatives. The position works collaboratively with diverse community participants, team members and volunteers (youth and community) to support the development and evaluation of community programs.

Key Duties and REsponsibilities:
Experience working with vulnerable populations including children, youth and families and seniors in a social recreational setting.
Plan, implement, run and evaluate recreational activities and programs for children and youth in summer programming and summer camps for children and youth, at Camp Alex the Youth space and GBK Kids.
Establish rapport, and initiate, develop and maintain supportive trusting culturally safe relationships with children, youth and their families.
Provide innovative and meaningful children’s programming incorporating food rescue and sustainability practices environmental stewardship, leadership social emotional learning, health and wellness, social justice, community safety and engagement activities. This can include community garden projects.
Co-creating/program plan, co-facilitate and evaluate Neighbourhood Fun Nights 2026 which are events that build community connection, belonging and connect neighbours, including families, seniors, youth and community. Assist in day-to-day marketing and promotion of activities, including social media platforms.
Administrative tasks, including acquiring program materials, tracking weekly program statistics, compiling narrative reports, and accurate records of program expenses.

This is an 8-week TERM full-time, 35-hour position from June to August 2026, (Monday-Friday with some evening work required) with an annual hiring range $21.54. **Availability for 8 weeks of full-time work is required.
Qualifications Required:
The successful candidate will be a student pursuing diploma/degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education, recreation programmer education, sociology, health sciences, counselling or related field.
Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable populations including children, youth and families and seniors in a social recreational or community
Prior volunteer or work experience with vulnerable populations
Demonstrated experience working with children and youth implementing programs and community events
Demonstrated understanding of Cultural Safety, and Cultural Humility and approaching the work through a decolonized lens.
Clear criminal record check
Standard First Aid/CPR certificate & Food-Safe or willingness to obtain
Fluency in a second language an asset
Eligibility (Canada Summer Jobs Requirements):
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection.
Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
