Position Summary:
Are you a creative and motivated post-secondary student passionate about youth engagement and community building? Join our dynamic team this summer as a Child & Youth Worker in White Rock/South Surrey. You’ll help design and deliver engaging summer activities for youth aged 6-18, bringing energy, fresh ideas, and a positive presence to our youth center and camps.
This role is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and offers students in higher education a meaningful opportunity to gain hands-on experience in youth programs, recreation, and community service.
Key REsponsibilities:
Demonstrated understanding of Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and approaching the work through a decolonized lens.
Co-develop and facilitate creative, recreational, and educational activities for children & youth aged 6-18 years (e.g., sports, arts & crafts, wellness workshops, cultural events, outdoor excursions) at the Youth Space or other youth and afterschool programs or Summer Camps for children at Camp Alex.
Build positive relationships with children & youth, encouraging participation and creating an inclusive, welcoming environment.
Collaborate with staff to support child & youth-led initiatives and incorporate youth voices into programming.
Assist with planning special summer events (e.g., talent shows, community BBQs, game nights).
Maintain a safe and respectful space for all participants by following center policies and safety procedures.
Help with outreach and promotion of programs via posters, social media, and word-of-mouth.
Support setup, cleanup, and day-to-day operations of the youth center and/or summer kidz camps.
Document participation, gather feedback, and contribute to summer program evaluations.
This is an 8-week term full-time, 35-hour position from June to August 2026, (Monday-Friday with some evening work required) with an annual hiring range $21.54. **Availability for 8 weeks of full-time work is required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a student pursuing diploma/degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education, recreation programmer education, sociology, health sciences, counselling or related field
Strong interest in child & youth work, recreation, education, or community services.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and teens.
Proven creativity and enthusiasm for organizing engaging group activities.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team in a fast-paced, flexible environment.
Reliable, self-motivated, and proactive with a positive attitude.
First-Aid, Food-Safe or willingness to obtain
Basic knowledge of social media and digital tools is an asset.
Experience working or volunteering with youth is a strong asset.
Clear criminal record check.
Eligibility (Canada Summer Jobs Requirements):
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection.
Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
