We are seeking 2 mindful, passionate, and collaborative Community Development Worker’s to join our Team for the summer. Accountability: The Community Development Worker (CDW) will join a dynamic team The Community Development worker works under the direction of the Director of Community Development Strategy & Implementation or designate. A core component of these positions will be co-creating and implementing Alex House’s Annual Neighbourhood Fun Nights and other gatherings for community. This position will work on continuing to build a functional ‘In Kind’ donations data base to support the tracking of current and past donations and seek new opportunities. This position will also look for ways to build in food sustainability and food rescue and find ways to bride to programs and services who could benefit including Alex House participants. This position will also help support marketing and promotional activities including social media, the creation/updating of program materials and other administrative tasks.

Key Duties and REsponsibilities:
Engage children, youth, and families to nurture anti-oppressive, and culturally safe programing summer programs
Work with staff, volunteers, families, and community partners to empower individual voices and skills
Plan and implement engaging activities to foster a holistic approach to health and wellness
Supporting the project planning, implementation and evaluation of activities and assist with writing reports
Co-creating/program planning, implementing and assisting with administrative pieces for the Neighbourhood Fun Nights 2026 to build community connections, resilience and a sense of belonging.
Co- create and facilitate a sustainable garden project in collaboration with Alex House’s Intergenerational Community (organic) Gardens with Gardeners, early childhood educators, children and families supporting the Food Bank Donations.
In collaboration with the Community Programs Coordinator or designate work on building new sources and partnerships for ‘in-kind’ donations within the local community. Co-creating a donations data base.
Creating and maintaining effective tracking systems and forms needed.
Assist in day-to-day marketing and promotion of activities including social media platforms
Conduct outreach to into Alex House Community Programs
Support promotion of volunteer opportunities at Alex House
This is an 8-week term full-time, 35-hour position from June to August 2026,
(Monday-Friday with some evening work required) with an annual hiring range $21.54.
**Availability for 8 weeks of full-time work is required.
Qualifications Required:
The successful candidate will be a student pursuing degree/diploma in Child/youth care, Social Work, Kinesiology, Education, Health Sciences or a related discipline or a related field
Experience working with vulnerable children, school age, and youth and families as well as intergenerational populations in community-based settings
Demonstrated experience working with children, youth, families
Experience creating and implementing programs & community events for children and youth and knowledge of implementing programs and community events
Knowledge and experience with community gardening, food rescue and food sustainability practices
Lived experience 2SLGBTQ+, IBPoC or other historically underrepresented groups or allyship
Experiences with leadership and group facilitation with children and youth
Clear criminal record check
Standard First Aid/CPR certificate and Food safe certification or willingness to obtain
Fluency in a second language an asset
Admin experience, use of Office 365, including basic excel, Outlook. Proficiency with use of Canva and other social media
Eligibility (Canada Summer Jobs Requirements):
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection.
Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
