Little Free Libraries

Community little free library at Camp Alex

Little Free Libraries promote reading and literacy by providing local, accessible sources for books. This is all done using the three “R’s” of sustainability: reduce, reuse and recycle. Our LFLs are all-weather outdoor book cabinets where readers are invited to take and leave books (they don’t have to be the same books).

Alex House has four LFLs:

  • Alex  Community Garden, Sullivan St. (between Kidd & McBride), Crescent Beach

  • Camp Alex in Crescent Beach, between Cabins 2 & 3

  • Camp Alex, by the gate to Children’s House and the Dining Hall (intended for children’s books)

  • Crescent Park Community Garden, 128th St. (between 25th and 26th Ave.), accessed through the City of Surrey parking lot.

When leaving books, please ensure that they are in good condition—intact covers, pages, and bindings; unsoiled; and not heavily marked-up or highlighted.

We do not accept the following:

  • Magazines, catalogues, or other periodicals

  • Textbooks or technical and specialist books.

  • Sacred books (e.g., Bible, Qu’ran, Book of Mormon, etc.) or those which promote or proselytize a religion or sect

  • Directories or almanacs

  • Sexually explicit material

  • Books you couldn’t possibly imagine anyone wanting to read!

If you would like to make a bulk donation of books, contact communityprograms@alexhouse.net.
