We are seeking a mindful, passionate, and collaborative Schools Out Children’s Recreation Worker to join our Team for the 2026-2027 Schools Out Program Year. The SO Children’s Recreation Worker works under the direction of the Community Programs Manager or designate. The role includes working within Schools Out at Katzie and Latimer Road Elementary Schools and occasionally within our GBK Kids Program. The position works collaboratively with diverse community participants, team members and volunteers (Children and community) to support the development and evaluation of community programs.

This position is a term from September 2026 to June 2027, Monday – Thursday after school hours 16-20 hours per week with the occasional evening required. There are program breaks (no work) during the 2-week school break in December and during the 2-week school Spring Break.
**Additional Hours may be available if available within other after school programs including GBK Kids and the AH Youth Space.
Responsibilities:
Assist in co-creating, planning, delivering and evaluating program activities and experiences using Schools Out Outcome domains including Identity Development, Social and Recreational Well-Being, Community and Land Stewardship, Health and Wellness, Skills and Competencies and family connection evenings.
Establish rapport, and initiate, develop and maintain supportive trusting culturally safe relationships with children, youth and their families.
Maintain a safe and respectful space for all participants by following center policies and safety procedures.
Working with the Afterschool Team to set up and take down engaging activities and programming for the participants.
Helping with maintaining program supply inventory, ordering and supporting purchasing.
Maintaining a menu for snacks that is co-created with the children including the SO Kids Culinary Cooking program.
Build positive relationships with children & youth, encouraging participation and creating an inclusive, welcoming environment.
Maintain a safe and respectful space for all participants by following center policies and safety procedures.
Work with children, youth and families to identify needs and in collaboration with the After School Team and Community Programs Manager provide culturally appropriate resources and where appropriate connection to services.
Respond to any urgent needs and any potential behaviouril, mental health, emotional concerns using trauma and culturally informed practice.
Job Details:
Hours: Part Time TERM Sept 2026-June 2027 16-20 Hours per week Afterschool Hours
Salary: Wage Band P3 range $23.10-26.51 per hour

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and competency in co-creating meaningful inclusive, culturally safe and trauma informed programming that builds social connections, skills, an opportunity to belong and have fun with others.
Understanding and taking an inclusive approach in understanding the diverse needs of children and youth.
Strong interest in child & youth work, recreation, education, or community services.
Demonstrated understanding of Cultural Safety, and Cultural Humility and approaching the work through a decolonized lens.
Personal vehicle insurance for business use, minimum 2 million liability and valid driver’s license and satisfactory current drivers abstract (mileage will be paid).
Daytime and occasional evening availability required.
Clear criminal record check
Fluency in a second language an asset
Education and Experience:
Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable populations including children, youth and families and seniors in a social recreational or community
The successful candidate will have or be pursuing diploma/degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education, recreation programmer education, health counselling or related field.
Demonstrated experience working with children and youth implementing programs and community events
Standard First Aid/CPR certificate
Current Food Safe Certification
