YOUTH & FAMILY WORKER

job summary:

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people and their families? We are looking for a Youth & Family Worker (YFW) who brings heart, creativity, and commitment to support youth aged 10-23 in the South Surrey/White Rock community.  

 YFW Role:

The role offers both 1-1 and group support to help youth navigate challenges, build life skills and strengthen community connections. Using a strength-based, youth-centered approach, the YFW meets youth where they are at, fosters a sense of belonging and empowers them to reach their goals. The YFW collaborates with families, community partners and team members, and plays an active role in Youth Space – supporting interactive programs that build social, emotional and interpersonal skills. Our work is rooted in inclusion, equality and community building. We strongly encourage application from Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour (IBPoC), individuals of all abilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build trusting relationships with youth and families, providing culturally responsive support and advocacy. 

  • Manage a caseload with all required documentation and reporting. 

  • Conduct weekly outreach and respond to urgent needs using a trauma-informed approach. 

  • Support Youth Space programming (groups and individuals), providing practical resources and attending at least once weekly. 

  • Assist in planning and delivering life skills, recreational, and cultural workshops. 

  • Collaborate with community partners (e.g., MCFD, CYMH, schools) to support youth well-being. 

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to record-keeping standards. 

Job Details:

Closing Date: Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis. The posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Hiring Range: ANHBC Salary Grid Band P4 Hiring Range - $23.59 - 26.14/hr (full range to $30/hr), plus comprehensive benefits package

Terms of Employment: 28-35 hours/week, including evening hours, and occasional weekend hours

  • Act with Accountability Goal: To ensure responsibility for actions and decisions, youth workers must be transparent, ethical and a dedication to ongoing development.

  • Build Trusting Relationships - Goal: To create a supportive, safe, and inclusive environment.

  • Demonstrate Self-Awareness - Goal: To understand personal strengths, challenges, and biases, enabling youth workers to reflect on their actions and improve their practice.

  • Lead with Curiosity - Goal: To remain open-minded, continuously learn, and explore new approaches to best support young people.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma, degree or attending education in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Education, Health Sciences, or related field 

  • Prior volunteer, work, or lived experience with vulnerable populations 

  • Understanding of Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility, and approaching the work through a decolonized lens 

  • Personal vehicle insured for business use, minimum $2 million liability and valid driver’s license and satisfactory current driver’s abstract (mileage paid) 

  • Current First Aid & CPR certificate; Foodsafe certification an asset
