Child and Youth Recreation Leader – 2 part-time term positions (12 hours afters chool per week)
job summary:
In collaboration with the Child & Youth Engagement Manager Cloverdale/Newton, the Schools Out Child & Youth Recreation Leader will lead the Schools Out Programs at 2 local elementary schools (Katzie Elementary and Latimer Road Elementary School. The Schools Out C&Y Recreation leader will support meaningful program activities that are co-created with children and the leaders focusing on important areas that include the five identified domains including identity development, social and relational well-being, community and land stewardship, health and wellness and skills and competencies.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in co-creating/planning, facilitating, delivering and evaluating program activities using Schools Out outcome domains including Identity Development, Social and Recreational Well-being, Community and Land Stewardship Health and Wellness, and Skills and Competencies
• Establish rapport, and initiate, develop, and maintain supportive and trusting culturally safe relationships with children, youth, and their families
• Program development in leadership, socialemotionallearning, health and wellness, social justice,communitysafety,andengagement activities.
• Work with children and youth to identify needs, and in collaboration with Child and Youth Manager, provide culturally appropriate resources and where appropriate connection to services.
• Respond to any urgent needs and potential behavioral, mental health, emotional, concerns using trauma and culturally informed practice
• Co-plan, collaborate and support special events and fieldtrip within the school community.
• Where appropriate support Child and Youth Manager with administrative tasks: maintaining effective tracking systems, forms, record keeping and databases and other duties as required
Job Details:
Hours: 12 Hours per week term (2-positions) September 2025-June 2026 positions (after school and occasional early evening hours except from Dec 22,2024-Jan 2, 2026)
*Also Note possible extension for summer program Subject to funding.
Salary: P3 step 3 $23.10 (full range $23.10-$26.52)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge and competency in co-creating meaningful inclusive, culturally safe & appropriate programs/activities with children, youth and families that are fun, build social connection, build skills and engaging.
• Proven ability to connect with children and meet them “where they’re at”
• Understanding the diverse needs of children & youth
• Knowledge and experience in trauma-informed practice, cultural safety child and pre-teen development
• Ability to be flexible, resourceful, and possess good time management skills
• Strong crisis intervention, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and comply with service standards
• Strong group facilitation with children and youth
• Able to work effectively independently and in collaboration with a team. Daytime and occasional evening availability required.
• Proficiency in a second language is an asset
Education and Experience:
• At least 2 years’ experience working with vulnerable children & youth and their families in a recreational or childcare setting.
• Diploma, degree or attending education in Social Work, Child and Youth Care Counselling, Education, Early Childhood, Health Sciences, or related field
• Prior volunteer or work experience with vulnerable populations
• Understanding of Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility and approaching the work through a decolonized lens.
• Personal vehicle insured for business use, minimum $2 million liability and valid driver’s license and satisfactory current driver’s abstract (mileage paid)
• Current First Aid, CPR,
• Current Food safe certification
• Clean Criminal record check
