Happy Pride Month from Alex House!

Happy Pride Month to all of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and their loved ones! Alex House is proud to celebrate as well as stand in solidarity with our 2SLGBTQ+ neighbours. We commit to ensuring a safe, affirming, and inclusive organization for our participants, volunteers, and staff; and standing up for the rights of our queer community members.

Pride is a celebration of queer identity and love, as well as a protest – being bold and demanding action against the ongoing discrimination and bigotry 2SLGBTQ+ people face in our communities, our country, and the world. Pride’s roots are in protest, and Pride Month is observed in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall protests in New York which is credited for being a tipping point in the fight for 2SLGBTQ+ rights.

In BC, Pride events are being held from late July to early August. Be sure to visit our local Pride events - Surrey Pride on June 24th and more Pride events across Surrey throughout the summer, White Rock Pride from July 21-29th, and Surrey Dyke March on August 19th - to show your support for our fellow 2SLGBTQ+ loved ones, neighbours, and community members! There’s also a great ‘Pride Show and Share’ exhibit at the Museum of Surrey running until September 3rd.
