Congratulations Sally Sheppard, 2020 Good Neighbour Award Winner

During Neighbourhood House Week, we focus on the gifts that our volunteers share with our community. Without volunteers, Alex House simply couldn't work. Whether it is serving meals, pulling weeds, greeting visitors, or driving seniors - volunteers are the foundation of our community service.

Sally Sheppard is one such volunteer. Before moving to Surrey, Sally volunteered at the Army, Navy and Air Force Club helping with the meat draws Friday and Saturdays. She is also on the decorating committee for special holidays, and is Mrs. Santa for the children Christmas party. She still volunteers there.

After moving to Surrey, Sally's daughter-in-law suggested she volunteer at Camp Alex in the preschool, which she has now done consistently for three years. Sally is a constant presence in our drop-in caregiver and child program; and also helps with our regular Neighbourhood Fun Nights.

We are delighted to name Sally Sheppard as our recipient of the 2020 Good Neighbour Award. The award is given out annually by the neighbourhood houses of the Lower Mainland to those individuals and businesses who have made an exceptional, long-term impact on their community.

Thank you, Sally, for all that you are, and all that you do. And thank you to all our volunteers - especially those supporting their neighbours during this crisis.
