"... Children desire to acquire knowledge, have much capacity for curiosity and amazement, and yearn to create relationships with others ... "

    Loris Malaguzzi

At Alexandra Neighbourhood House Children’s Centres we are committed to supporting the community in its efforts to raise happy, confident children.  We value the ability to learn and explore together, as well as from one another.

We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to learning where adults, (staff and parents), assist children to understand the meaning of their experiences more completely through observations, continuous dialogue, and documentation of their work,  By using this approach, we guide children’s ideas with provocations – not predetermined curricula.  We support the interests of the children.  If they are interested in going to the moon – well, we need to help them get there.  The materials and equipment that are offered to the children are rich with creative possibilities and provide opportunities to develop skills and knowledge.  We encourage our learners to think creatively, to innovate while sharing their experiences and interacting with the world through compassionate eyes.

We embrace the process of learning, encouraging our teachers to be present, listening and growing alongside our children. Our highly qualified staff ensure a Reggio Emilia approach to learning through their delight in children, an understanding of the value of play, their vision, heart, knowledge, skills and strong commitment to families.

Our programs are offered on a full time (5 days/week) or part time (2-4 days/week).  Part time children must determine which days of the week they will attend on a regular basis.  We are not able to accommodate changing schedules, but occasionally maybe able to accommodate additional days of care if there is a vacancy in the program.

More information is available in our Family Handbook.
