2020 Alexandra Festival Cancelled
In the spring of 1974, a group of enthusiastic local residents came together to initiate the first Alexandra Festival to celebrate the agency’s transition from a summer camp to a fully-fledged neighbourhood house. Every year, rain or shine, we have continued the tradition, offering our community a day of main stage performances, an energetic Family Fun Zone, exhibits, artisan vendors, great food, fun and fellowship.
Forty-six years later, we have had to make the hard decision to cancel the 2020 Festival, originally scheduled for Saturday May 30, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the need to reduce physical contact and the prohibition currently in place on any gatherings of people outside their own household groups.
While none of us know how long social distancing guidelines will be in place we have tentatively set a date of Saturday September 12 to host a smaller event, along the same lines as our annual May festival.
We are inviting contractors, vendors, and entertainers who had agreed to be a part of Alex Fest to participate in this fall event. Please mark your calendars, and we will be in touch to confirm once the public health situation becomes clearer, and we know if we can go ahead.
We look forward to carrying on next year, the last weekend in May, with gratitude and a new awareness of how important it is to be able to physically interact with our friends, neighbours and community.
We appreciate your understanding as we all cope with this public health emergency. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Neil at firstname.lastname@example.org.
