Over eighty happy neighbours regularly joined us for our summer Neighbourhood Fun Nights. Adults and kids alike enjoyed a delicious, low-cost, home-cooked dinner served by volunteers Phyllis and Elaine, followed by entertainment, fun displays and, of course, our usual full complement of games and activities for the youngsters.
In this issue ...... Centennial Homecoming, Lit Cafe, Buy a Brick, Parent Ed Workshop Series, Youth Collective, Play Away Day Camps and Neighbourhood Fun Nights, Fall Programs & Events, Community Conversation on Climate Change, and lots more.
The Alexandra Festival is our signature community event, attracting nearly 3,000 people to Alex House every year on the last Saturday in May. Enjoy a variety of family activities, browse the artisans and crafters booths and admire (and purchase!) their gifts, treasures and must-have items of every type and description.
Camp Alexandra was named after Princess Alexandra, who married the Prince of Wales in 1863. She was a great philanthropist, focusing on causes involving children, and it is her involvement with children that leads to our roots.
Building on two years of VG PlayRoom sessions where artists experiment with new ideas, Virginia Gillespie has opened the Word Studio upstairs in Alexandra Hall to develop projects, events and training in the Verbal Arts. Performance oriented, Word Studio will generate ideas and projects for a variety of events and engage with the community.
